More Aussies seeking help for sex and porn addiction

More Australians are seeking support for sex and pornography addiction as private, paid content platforms rise in popularity.

In 2023, the number of users and creators accessing OnlyFans, a subscription and pay-per-view platform, increased by nearly 30 per cent, showing the growing demand for private pornographic content.

The site also reported a 19 per cent increase in gross payments processed to $6.63 billion.

The Banyans Healthcare, a rehabilitation centre located in Brisbane’s Bowen Hills, reported a 184 per cent increase in enquiries for pornography or sex addiction support in the past six months.

Platforms like OnlyFans had legitimised pornography in an unhelpful way as more people viewed it as a career option, psychologist Gavin Brown told AAP.

“We have people talking very publicly about their careers on OnlyFans and how much money they’re making – it’s an extension of the influencer phenomenon without people thinking about the long-term consequences,” he said.

“We’ve glamorised something that is actually very harmful.”

Porn addiction was something that needed to be talked about “a whole lot more”, particularly its impact on younger generations, Dr Brown said.

“It’s important to understand the harms of online pornography, which is manifestly different to the old version of magazine pornography,” he said.

“The difference with the internet is that you can literally be looking at a new image every second, which affects the brain circuitry and becomes much more reinforcing than old print forms.”

Experts suspect platforms like OnlyFans could increase the risk of a user developing a porn addiction because it provides a never-ending stream of explicit content tailored to their own desires.

Some of the warning signs of a developing addiction include loss of interest in a partner, withdrawing from other activities to spend time watching porn and looking for more and more explicit content.

Online pornography is prevalent in the lives of young people and first encountered at an average age of 13, according to a 2022 study by the Australian eSafety Commissioner.

First encounters with online pornography were most commonly unintentional and for around one-in-three Australians, this occurred before the age of 13.

“Unfortunately, while the symptoms of pornography addiction can be less visible than other behavioural conditions, it can still negatively interfere in daily life, relationships and wellbeing, and have devastating impacts on the individual,” Dr Brown said.

The NSW government has established an inquiry into the impacts of harmful pornography on mental, emotional and physical health, with its first public hearing due to be held on Monday.

Early exposure to pornography can have a significant negative impact on the development of young people’s attitudes about gender roles, identities and relationships, anti-violence organisation Our Watch said.

In a submission to the parliamentary inquiry, sex worker organisation Scarlet Alliance said law-makers must engage meaningfully with those involved in porn production to avoid perpetuating stigma and discrimination towards marginalised communities.

“Family, sexual and other gender-based violence cannot be addressed by the implementation of anti-sex work or anti-pornography policies,” chief executive Mish Pony said.

Treatment and support for sex and porn addiction is available like any other mental health challenge, Banyans Healthcare founder Ruth Limkin said.

“The World Health Organisation now formally recognises sex addiction as Compulsive Sexual Behaviour Disorder,” she said.

“Like many addictions, many people are reluctant to acknowledge their experience and need for help (and) this is why it’s important to discuss the widespread need and normalise help seeking behaviours.”

Georgia Harrison’s ‘struggle’ at how ‘widespread’ her sex tape is

Georgia Harrison has revealed her ‘struggle’ at discovering just how ‘widespread’ her leaked sex tape with now convicted sex offender Stephen Bear is.

Pricasso the penis painter paints our portraitThe Love Island star, 30, discusses the video in her new ITV documentary Georgia Harrison: Porn, Power, Profit which takes a look at the revenge porn industry and also investigates the ever-expanding Deep Fake porn world.

Stephen, a former Celebrity Big Brother winner, served half of a 21-month prison sentence and was then ordered to pay the £22,305 that prosecutors estimated that he earned from illegally sharing the footage on OnlyFans.

Now Georgia has taken on the difficult task of tracking down the places where the leaked video still exists as part of her upcoming programme.

She described the experience, saying: ‘What we really wanted to do was get to the bottom of who is behind the posting of image-based sexual abuse that’s still out there.

‘The first part involves me having to really look into where my video still is which is obviously a really tough thing to do, but by doing that we could then decipher how many different sites it was on.

Stephen, a former Celebrity Big Brother winner, served half of a 21-month prison sentence and was then ordered to pay the £22,305 that prosecutors estimated that he earned from the video

‘Then this gave us a way of following the video, figuring out who is actually behind the money and who is advertising next to this image-based sexual abuse.’

She added: ‘I would say obviously the hardest part for me was having to see how widespread my video still is.

‘I have a lot of people messaging me all the time, sending me clips of it, it’s always something in the back of my mind, but having to really face head-on exactly where it is and how many places it’s in was a real struggle for me.

‘To overcome that, I always remind myself that sometimes when you have a problem, the only way you can face it is head-on.

‘The only way for it to be impossible for not only my video but any victim of image-based sexual abuse’s video not to be online in the future is for there to be more awareness and for the government and higher-up companies within the internet to get together and face it head-on.

‘For me, I know it wasn’t the easiest thing to do, it was the best thing I can do for my future and other women’s future.’

During the filming of the documentary, Georgia spoke to porn site creators, a Pornhub representative and private investigators to delve into both branches of the industry.

The TV personality also explained how she recovered from her ordeal.

‘I overcame that by having such a strong family, such an amazing partner and amazing friends,’ she said.

‘They are just so supportive in every way of everything that I do and they just make it so much easier for me to really look at things from an outward perspective and to really let go of a lot of shame which naturally does arise for victims throughout the rest of their lives.’

Georgia, who waived her right to anonymity as she campaigned for stricter laws around revenge porn, told the Proceeds of Crime hearing at the time: ‘I had to live in fear that this was going to come out and my family were going to know about it.

‘It was just like the worst feeling you can ever possibly imagine. I felt violated, I felt embarrassed – I hated myself for a really long time.’

Stephen, from Loughton, Essex, was sentenced to 21 months in March 2023 after a jury found him guilty of voyeurism and disclosing private, sexual photographs and films.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) previously told how Stephen has shown ‘a complete lack of remorse’.

Ahead of his sentencing, he posed for selfies outside court and sang Lady In Red to a reporter wearing a red coat. He also arrived for hearings, supported by his father, in lavish outfits and a Rolls Royce.

As he was jailed, he waved from the dock and said: ‘Have a good evening. Enjoy the weekend everyone.’

In March last year, he was ordered to pay £22,305 to retrieve the money he made by sharing the sex tape on OnlyFans. He was also ordered to pay £5,000 in compensation to Georgia.

Chelmsford Crown Court confirmed the £22,305 was paid in full on May 8 last year.

It comes after Georgia said she was awarded £207,900 damages following a High Court case but that Stephen had paid ‘not one penny’ of it.

The Big Brother winner sold his home in Loughton while he was in prison to pay his legal bills.

Iconic ’80s rock star joins OnlyFans at age 66

An ’80s rock icon is the latest celebrity to join OnlyFans.

Lorraine Lewis, best known for her time in the ’80s rock bands Femme Fatale and Vixen, recently opened an account on the racy site at age 66.

Discussing the controversial decision on The Chuck Shute Podcast, the blonde bombshell said that the response had been ‘amazing’.

‘I have wanted to join OnlyFans for a very, very long time,’ she said in the interview, which was transcribed by Blabbermouth.

‘I just think it’s a cool platform. It can be whatever you want it to be. I think a lot of people think it’s really just porn. It’s not. It doesn’t have to be. But it’s sexy, I’ll tell you that. Like, I’m hella sexy.’

Since launching the page, Lewis said that she’s picked up about 500 subscribers, who are all paying $20 a month for her exclusive content.

Now that she’s earning over $10,000 a month, Lewis has no plans to slow down.

‘It’s been amazing,’ she gushed. ‘It just makes sense that a girl like me, a rock star like me, would take this to the next level.’

’80s rock icon Lorraine Lewis, 66, is the latest celebrity to join OnlyFans

She continued, ‘I’ve always been a rebel. I’m always full of surprises. And this is just another level of, like, doing what I wanna do and living life to the fullest.

‘If I’m lucky, I’ve got 30 more years on the planet. I can talk about this when I’m sipping tea when I’m 100.’

Lewis brushed off any criticism she’s received over the bold move, calling her OnlyFans era ‘just another phase of my life’.

‘I’m owning it. I’m embracing it. I’m in control of whatever I wanna do, and I’m just having so much fun.’

With decades in the music industry under her belt, it’s no surprise that most of the singer’s subscribers are longtime fans of her music.

‘I have so many fans that have come on and they’re, like, “I’ve had a crush on you since I was 15 years old and first saw your video”,’ she said.

‘I mean, it’s a chance for people to have a one-on-one with me, get to know me on a more intimate one-on-one level, have fun with it.’

Lewis said that she was ‘proud’ of herself for taking the plunge into OnlyFans, and has even hired a publicist to promote the racy venture.

Lewis shot to fame in 1987 as the lead singer of rock band Femme Fatale

The 66-year-old enjoyed a stint as the frontwoman of Vixen (pictured) before getting the boot from the band last year

While most people associate OnlyFans with young models and influencers, Lewis certainly isn’t the only celebrity over 60 to have an account on the site.

’80s supermodel Carol Alt, 64, Sex dabbled in OnlyFans for a while and former Baywatch babe Donna D’Errico is also an avid creator.

Lewis shot to fame in 1987 as the lead singer of rock band Femme Fatale.

The group are best known for their hits Waiting for the Big One and Falling In and Out of Love.

In 2019, she enjoyed a stint as the frontwoman for legendary female rock band Vixen, best known for their 1988 hit Edge of a Broken Heart.

However, she abruptly exited the band last year, cryptically claiming that the band had taken ‘a different direction’.

Since launching the page, Lewis said that she’s picked up about 500 subscribers, who are all paying $20 a month for her exclusive content

‘It’s been amazing,’ she gushed. ‘It just makes sense that a girl like me, a rock star like me, would take this to the next level’

Lewis later admitted that she’d been fired from Vixen without explanation.

‘It was not my decision to leave and I think that’s something that I do want to be clear and known,’ she told Sleaze Roxx.

‘I was surprised. I thought that we were getting ready to go on tour for the summer, so I was ready to rock n’ roll,’ she continued.

‘I miss the girls and we had the best ride, and I am still honoured, so humbled and grateful to have been a part of Vixen and what I brought to the table, and the amount of touring that I got to do with them, and have a blast. And I think the fans really loved it.’

Ryan Reynolds calls Justin Baldoni a ‘predator’ in court motion

Ryan Reynolds has unloaded on Justin Baldoni in a blistering demand that he be dismissed from the movie producer’s $400 million lawsuit against him.

The Deadpool star publicly defended his wife Blake Lively and mocked Baldoni for his ‘thin-skinned outrage’ and his ‘hurt feelings’ in a brutal filing to a court in New York in which he called the actor a ‘predator.’

Reynolds said that he believed Baldoni  harassed his wife on the set of Iy Ends With Us, the film which led to the two sides suing each other for defamation.

Over 38 pages, Reynolds called himself a ‘supportive spouse who has witnessed firsthand the emotional, reputational and financial devastation’ his wife suffered.

Reynolds accused Baldoni of attempting to ‘shame’ him for being the ‘kind of man who is confident enough to listen to the woman in his wife and stand with her’

And Reynolds said he was entitled to have a low opinion of Baldoni because of what he put his wife through.

Ryan Reynolds has unloaded on Justin Baldoni in a blistering demand that he be dismissed from the movie producer’s $400 million lawsuit against him and wife Blake Lively

Reynolds said that he believed Baldoni was a ‘predator’ who harassed his wife on the set of It Ends With Us, the film which led to the two sides suing each other for defamation.

The papers said: ‘Mr. Reynolds has a First Amendment right to hold Mr. Baldoni – or Sex any man who Mr. Reynolds believes sexually harassed his wife – in ‘deep disdain.’

The filing marks an extraordinary twist in the epic battle between Baldoni, Reynolds and Lively.

Lively was the first to sue in December last year, alleging that Baldoni ordered a ‘smear campaign’ against her due to tensions on the set of It Ends With Us, a domestic violence drama.

Baldoni, 41, retaliated with a $400 million defamation case against Lively, 37, and Reynolds, 48, as well as the New York Times, which ran a lengthy article about her claims.

In his latest salvo, Reynolds demanded that he be dismissed from the case on several grounds, but his scorching language indicated how personal the dispute has become.

His lawyers asked: ‘What does Ryan Reynolds have to do with (this case), legally speaking, other than being a supportive spouse who has witnessed firsthand the emotional, reputational, and financial devastation Ms. Lively has suffered? Nothing.’

Justin Baldoni is a predator, who admitted that his view of the world was shaped by watching pornography at an early age, Reynolds claims in his motion

Reynolds describes himself as a ‘supportive spouse who has witnessed firsthand the emotional, reputational and financial devastation’ his wife has suffered

Reynolds claimed that the only reason he was named as a defendant was because Steve Sarowitz, the co-founder of Baldoni’s production company Wayfarer Studios, had pledged $100 million to ‘ruin’ him and Lively.

The Deadpool star claims that Baldoni’s allegations are ‘polluting this court’s docket with hundreds of paragraphs of clickbait, designed for an audience other than this court, with virtually no bearing on cognizable legal claim’.

Reynolds notes that the allegations against him refer to two occasions he supposedly called Baldoni a ‘predator’.

But Reynolds says that this is protected speech – because he firmly believes it.

The filing states: ‘The (complaint filed by Baldoni) alleges no plausible facts that suggest Mr. Reynolds did not believe this comment to be true; instead, the relevant allegations suggest that Mr. Reynolds genuinely, perhaps passionately, believes that Mr Baldoni’s behavior is reflective of a ‘predator’.

Reynolds then referred to Nicepool, a mockingly woke character in Deadpool & Wolverine’ which premiered last July, which Baldoni claims is based on him – even down to the man bun hairstyle.

The document says Baldoni’s ‘thin-skinned outrage over a movie character, the satirical “woke” Nicepool, does not even pretend to be tied to any actual legal claims.

‘Instead, it falls into the general allegation of “hurt feelings” which in reality is nothing more than a desperate effort to advance the same curated “bully” image that (Baldoni) created and disseminated in the retaliation campaign they launched against Ms. Lively in August of 2024′.

Baldoni said ‘I’m sure I have crossed boundaries and lines in my teens and twenties not even thinking about it simply because of the porn I was consuming,’ according to Reynolds’s motion

In another blistering passage, Reynolds says that Baldoni’s complaint, which ran to 179 pages, was ‘long on hyperbole’.

He writes: ‘It is, in essence, a burn book filled with grievances attempting to shame Mr. Reynolds for being the kind of man who is “confident enough to listen” to the woman in his life and to hold her “anguish and actually stand with her’.

Reynolds goes on defending Lively, saying he is allowed to stand up for her.

In another startling passage, Reynolds uses Baldoni’s own public comments against him to demonstrate he is a self-confessed predator.

He says that Baldoni’s own statements contain ‘numerous references to conduct that a reasonable observer could well consider predatory’.

They include a 2023 YouTube interview in which Baldoni said: ‘I’m sure I have crossed boundaries and lines in my teens and twenties not even thinking about it simply because of the porn I was consuming.’

In a 2021 episode of his podcast, Man Enough’ in which he talked about masculinity, Baldoni said: ‘I grew up and I had an addiction to porn. I was introduced to porn at 10 years old, formed these neural pathways in my brain, and it caused me to see the world very differently.’

It Ends With Us explores the generational effects of domestic violence

Baldoni and Lively have been at war since production of the movie ended with Lively claiming he sexually harassed her

the producer In another episode of the podcast, Baldoni admitted: ‘Because we never. . . no one ever sits us down and teaches us about consent. We learn it through porn.’

According to the filing, Baldoni has also admitted to using ‘violent’ language about women such as: ‘Did you smash that?’ saying he wanted to ‘claim’ women.

Baldoni once said he had ‘not treated women with the respect he knows they deserved, both socially and romantically’, the filing states.

Reynolds concludes: ‘While it is unclear what ‘predator’ means to an average listener, it is quite clear that there is no discernible distinction between the gist of Mr. Reynolds’ purported statements and the very behavior to which Mr. Baldoni has repeatedly confessed in public appearances, including that he spent years of his life mistreating women, which he attributes to a lengthy addiction to pornography, as well as openly describing his distorted conception of “consent” in sexual relationships.’
