Sex addiction therapist on the ‘signs’ your husband is a porn addict

Anna, 50, had been married to Tom, 51, for 20 years when he started spending all his free time in the garden shed, never wanting to socialise or talk to her.

As for their once-healthy sex life, now Tom made every excuse not to be intimate. He also became increasingly defensive, blaming stress, work and even Anna for putting on weight and prioritising their children.

She wondered if he was having an affair but that made no sense because he was always at home. Two years later, Anna finally discovered the real reason for Tom’s behaviour.

An unusual transaction on their shared credit card turned out to be a payment to an internet sex site. Anna, accessing Tom’s browsing history, followed an online trail only to discover he had been watching porn for several hours every day, Kontol even when he was allegedly working.

We’ve heard a lot about the dangers of internet porn – how it’s negatively affecting children and preventing young men from developing healthy sexual relationships. What is rarely spoken about is how many middle-aged and older people are also affected.

In the UK, thousands of men over 40 are addicted to pornography, and it’s clear to me as a sex and relationship therapist that this addiction is destroying sex lives and marriages. While I’ve been practising for 30 years, 15 years ago I started to see more and more men seeking help.

This addiction is not about the volume of porn viewed but using it to the extent that it’s causing significant problems in a person’s life and relationship. And then, despite these problems, they are unable to stop.

Which is why I now specialise in sex and porn addiction, providing counselling to both the addicted and non-addicted partner, as well as running groups and helping couples rebuild trust and intimacy.

Georgia Harrison’s ‘struggle’ at how ‘widespread’ her sex tape is

Georgia Harrison has revealed her ‘struggle’ at discovering just how ‘widespread’ her leaked sex tape with now convicted sex offender Stephen Bear is.

Stephen, a former Celebrity Big Brother winner, served half of a 21-month prison sentence and was then ordered to pay the £22,305 that prosecutors estimated that he earned from illegally sharing the footage on OnlyFans.

Now Georgia has taken on the difficult task of tracking down the places where the leaked video still exists as part of her upcoming programme.

She described the experience, saying: ‘What we really wanted to do was get to the bottom of who is behind the posting of image-based sexual abuse that’s still out there.

‘The first part involves me having to really look into where my video still is which is obviously a really tough thing to do, but by doing that we could then decipher how many different sites it was on.

‘Then this gave us a way of following the video, figuring out who is actually behind the money and who is advertising next to this image-based sexual abuse.’

She added: ‘I would say obviously the hardest part for me was having to see how widespread my video still is.

‘I have a lot of people messaging me all the time, sending me clips of it, it’s always something in the back of my mind, but having to really face head-on exactly where it is and how many places it’s in was a real struggle for me.

‘To overcome that, I always remind myself that sometimes when you have a problem, the only way you can face it is head-on.

‘The only way for it to be impossible for not only my video but any victim of image-based sexual abuse’s video not to be online in the future is for there to be more awareness and for the government and higher-up companies within the internet to get together and face it head-on.

‘For me, I know it wasn’t the easiest thing to do, it was the best thing I can do for my future and other women’s future.’

During the filming of the documentary, Georgia spoke to porn site creators, a Pornhub representative and private investigators to delve into both branches of the industry.

The TV personality also explained how she recovered from her ordeal.

‘They are just so supportive in every way of everything that I do and they just make it so much easier for me to really look at things from an outward perspective and to really let go of a lot of shame which naturally does arise for victims throughout the rest of their lives.’

Georgia, who waived her right to anonymity as she campaigned for stricter laws around revenge porn, told the Proceeds of Crime hearing at the time: ‘I had to live in fear that this was going to come out and my family were going to know about it.

Ahead of his sentencing, he posed for selfies outside court and sang Lady In Red to a reporter wearing a red coat. He also arrived for hearings, supported by his father, in lavish outfits and a Rolls Royce.

As he was jailed, he waved from the dock and said: ‘Have a good evening. Enjoy the weekend everyone.’

Ryan Reynolds calls Justin Baldoni a ‘predator’ in court motion

Ryan Reynolds has unloaded on Justin Baldoni in a blistering demand that he be dismissed from the movie producer’s $400 million lawsuit against him.

The Deadpool star publicly defended his wife Blake Lively and mocked Baldoni for his ‘thin-skinned outrage’ and his ‘hurt feelings’ in a brutal filing to a court in New York in which he called the actor a ‘predator.’

Reynolds said that he believed Baldoni  harassed his wife on the set of Iy Ends With Us, the film which led to the two sides suing each other for defamation.

Over 38 pages, Reynolds called himself a ‘supportive spouse who has witnessed firsthand the emotional, reputational and financial devastation’ his wife suffered.

Reynolds accused Baldoni of attempting to ‘shame’ him for being the ‘kind of man who is confident enough to listen to the woman in his wife and stand with her’

And Reynolds said he was entitled to have a low opinion of Baldoni because of what he put his wife through.

Ryan Reynolds has unloaded on Justin Baldoni in a blistering demand that he be dismissed from the movie producer’s $400 million lawsuit against him and wife Blake Lively

Reynolds said that he believed Baldoni was a ‘predator’ who harassed his wife on the set of It Ends With Us, the film which led to the two sides suing each other for defamation.

The papers said: ‘Mr. Reynolds has a First Amendment right to hold Mr. Baldoni – or Sex any man who Mr. Reynolds believes sexually harassed his wife – in ‘deep disdain.’

The filing marks an extraordinary twist in the epic battle between Baldoni, Reynolds and Lively.

Lively was the first to sue in December last year, alleging that Baldoni ordered a ‘smear campaign’ against her due to tensions on the set of It Ends With Us, a domestic violence drama.

Baldoni, 41, retaliated with a $400 million defamation case against Lively, 37, and Reynolds, 48, as well as the New York Times, which ran a lengthy article about her claims.

In his latest salvo, Reynolds demanded that he be dismissed from the case on several grounds, but his scorching language indicated how personal the dispute has become.

His lawyers asked: ‘What does Ryan Reynolds have to do with (this case), legally speaking, other than being a supportive spouse who has witnessed firsthand the emotional, reputational, and financial devastation Ms. Lively has suffered? Nothing.’

Justin Baldoni is a predator, who admitted that his view of the world was shaped by watching pornography at an early age, Reynolds claims in his motion

Reynolds describes himself as a ‘supportive spouse who has witnessed firsthand the emotional, reputational and financial devastation’ his wife has suffered

Reynolds claimed that the only reason he was named as a defendant was because Steve Sarowitz, the co-founder of Baldoni’s production company Wayfarer Studios, had pledged $100 million to ‘ruin’ him and Lively.

The Deadpool star claims that Baldoni’s allegations are ‘polluting this court’s docket with hundreds of paragraphs of clickbait, designed for an audience other than this court, with virtually no bearing on cognizable legal claim’.

Reynolds notes that the allegations against him refer to two occasions he supposedly called Baldoni a ‘predator’.

But Reynolds says that this is protected speech – because he firmly believes it.

The filing states: ‘The (complaint filed by Baldoni) alleges no plausible facts that suggest Mr. Reynolds did not believe this comment to be true; instead, the relevant allegations suggest that Mr. Reynolds genuinely, perhaps passionately, believes that Mr Baldoni’s behavior is reflective of a ‘predator’.

Reynolds then referred to Nicepool, a mockingly woke character in Deadpool & Wolverine’ which premiered last July, which Baldoni claims is based on him – even down to the man bun hairstyle.

The document says Baldoni’s ‘thin-skinned outrage over a movie character, the satirical “woke” Nicepool, does not even pretend to be tied to any actual legal claims.

‘Instead, it falls into the general allegation of “hurt feelings” which in reality is nothing more than a desperate effort to advance the same curated “bully” image that (Baldoni) created and disseminated in the retaliation campaign they launched against Ms. Lively in August of 2024′.

Baldoni said ‘I’m sure I have crossed boundaries and lines in my teens and twenties not even thinking about it simply because of the porn I was consuming,’ according to Reynolds’s motion

In another blistering passage, Reynolds says that Baldoni’s complaint, which ran to 179 pages, was ‘long on hyperbole’.

He writes: ‘It is, in essence, a burn book filled with grievances attempting to shame Mr. Reynolds for being the kind of man who is “confident enough to listen” to the woman in his life and to hold her “anguish and actually stand with her’.

Reynolds goes on defending Lively, saying he is allowed to stand up for her.

In another startling passage, Reynolds uses Baldoni’s own public comments against him to demonstrate he is a self-confessed predator.

He says that Baldoni’s own statements contain ‘numerous references to conduct that a reasonable observer could well consider predatory’.

They include a 2023 YouTube interview in which Baldoni said: ‘I’m sure I have crossed boundaries and lines in my teens and twenties not even thinking about it simply because of the porn I was consuming.’

In a 2021 episode of his podcast, Man Enough’ in which he talked about masculinity, Baldoni said: ‘I grew up and I had an addiction to porn. I was introduced to porn at 10 years old, formed these neural pathways in my brain, and it caused me to see the world very differently.’

It Ends With Us explores the generational effects of domestic violence

Baldoni and Lively have been at war since production of the movie ended with Lively claiming he sexually harassed her

the producer In another episode of the podcast, Baldoni admitted: ‘Because we never. . . no one ever sits us down and teaches us about consent. We learn it through porn.’

According to the filing, Baldoni has also admitted to using ‘violent’ language about women such as: ‘Did you smash that?’ saying he wanted to ‘claim’ women.

Baldoni once said he had ‘not treated women with the respect he knows they deserved, both socially and romantically’, the filing states.

Reynolds concludes: ‘While it is unclear what ‘predator’ means to an average listener, it is quite clear that there is no discernible distinction between the gist of Mr. Reynolds’ purported statements and the very behavior to which Mr. Baldoni has repeatedly confessed in public appearances, including that he spent years of his life mistreating women, which he attributes to a lengthy addiction to pornography, as well as openly describing his distorted conception of “consent” in sexual relationships.’

My wife’s new porn fixation is destroying our sex life: SAUCY SECRETS

Dear Jana,

My wife and I were having a few drinks the other night and the conversation turned to the weirdest things people are into.

I jokingly brought up some over-the-top kinks, expecting her to roll her eyes. But instead, she went quiet and said, ‘Well, I’ve actually kind of wanted to try pegging.’

Then, seeing the look on my face, she laughed it off and changed the subject. The problem is, now I can’t stop thinking about it.

Was that a test to see how I’d react? Is this something she wants to try? And more importantly, am I supposed to just pretend this never happened, or bring it up again?

It’s not something I’ve ever been keen to try. I’m a straight man and have no burning desire to be f***ed.

Honestly, it’s kind of made me look at her differently.

Anonymous.

Each week, Mail+ columnist Jana Hocking answers readers’ questions about their love lives

Dear Anonymous,

Can I just tell you, over the last six to 12 months, I have heard so many stories about pegging from my followers. In the name of ‘research’ I decided to see what it looks like. It wasn’t exactly my idea of sexy, but it was indeed fascinating.

One thing I took away from this ‘research’ was that in every video the man looked like he was having a jolly good time, and the woman, while not receiving much in terms of stimulation, did appear to enjoy being in charge. Quite the gender reversal, if you will.

But for the record, just because you let your wife peg you, certainly doesn’t mean you aren’t straight. I mean, it’s your wife doing it to you, so you’re having a very ‘straight’ time, just in a, er, slightly different way.

If you’re quietly judging her a little for her kink – or just a little curiosity – then let me reassure you I’ve heard of many upstanding individuals who enjoy being pegged (including royalty!) so it’s actually not that outside the box.

Here’s the thing about fantasies: just because she shared it with you doesn’t mean you have to do it. However, I also wouldn’t recommend burying your head in the sand and pretending she didn’t say anything either.

This might sound a little bonkers, but why don’t you suggest watching a porno involving pegging? Choose the video wisely, mind. Go for a hot couple who look like they’re having a fun, and avoid anything weird where the bloke is oinking like a pig.

As you watch, ask you wife why it turns her on. Rather than judging her, get curious instead. What she has to say may surprise you. You certainly don’t have to say yes but perhaps you could find a compromise – like letting her take the lead once in a while?

How married women REALLY feel about their single friends… and the remark that keeps me up at night

Dear Jana,

A few months ago, my wife’s porn habit was bothering me to the point I asked her to stop watching it.

She was getting really secretive about it and it was impacting our sex life (she wanted to do things I wasn’t comfortable with, like choking, and was taking ages to climax). I figured we could both do with a detox, and she agreed.

As a compromise, she suggested reading erotic books. I thought that was fine – I mean, how smutty can they be? Certainly not worse than you’d find on Pornhub.

Well, I was wrong. Every night before bed she’s reading this stuff. I flicked through one lying on her bedside table to see what all the hype was about, and they are pure filth. Group sex, cheating, men with gigantic you-know-whats. And the worst part is, she reads these books religiously and barely initiates sex with me anymore.

When I brought it up, she rolled her eyes and said, ‘It’s just fiction, not even porn.’ But it is turning her on, just not with me.

I’m tempted to ban the books, but after my porn ban I worry she’ll just think I’m jealous and controlling.

Anonymous.

Dear Anonymous,

Excuse me. Did we just travel back in time to the 1950s when it was totally normal (and not at all controlling and messed up) for a man to enforce ‘bans’ on their wives?

Do you know how many men would kill for a wife with a libido like hers? The issue here isn’t the books – or the porn, for that matter – but the fact her fantasies are lighting her fire, but you’re not the one she’s turning to.

That’s where the alarm bells should be ringing, my friend.

Now, before you start burning books (which, history has shown, is never a good idea), let’s take a breath. You said her porn habit was making you uncomfortable, so you asked her to stop. Fair enough. But then she pivoted to books, and now that’s an issue too? Buddy, if you keep banning every outlet that turns her on, you’re not going to have a horny wife, you’re going to have a resentful one.

Instead of playing bedroom police, why not lean in and see what’s really going on?

A husband tells Jana he’s worried about his wife’s enthusiasm for reading erotic books, which began after they both agreed to stop watching porn (stock image posed by models)

I would suggest taking a less judgmental flick through those smutty books and see what’s getting her hot under the collar. For all you know, the remedy could be as simple as growing a beard (or is that just my fantasy?)

Maybe she’s craving something a little more adventurous than the standard routine you seem comfortable with. Maybe she’s just in a phase where the fantasy is more exciting than the reality (trust me, plenty of us fantasise about things we’d never actually do). Either way, the solution isn’t banning anything; it’s understanding.

I’ll be honest here, the way you defensively worded your question already has me rolling up my sleeves. So before you bring this up with her, rethink your approach. (The only thing you need to ‘ban’ is the word ‘ban’ from your vocabulary).

Who knows? If you approach this with curiosity rather than control, you might just find a way to bring some of that smut-inspired spice into your own love life.

Now, go and grow that beard – I mean… communicate.

Dear Jana,

My boyfriend and I have been together for over a year, and we don’t use condoms because he always complains they ‘ruin the feeling’.

He swears he just hates them, and every time I’ve tried to bring it up, he brushes me off and tells me to just go on the pill – which I don’t want to do because it messes with my hormones.

But the other day, I was looking for a charging cable in his car’s glove compartment and found a brand-new, unopened box of condoms. Not a single one was missing. My heart dropped.

When I confronted him, he turned bright red, stammered for a second, then said they were ‘old’, even though the expiration date was years away. Then he tried to laugh it off and changed the subject.

Now I can’t stop thinking about it. If he hates condoms so much, why does he have a fresh supply hidden away? I want to believe there’s some logical explanation, but my gut is screaming at me that something isn’t right. Is this as bad as I think it is?

Nic.

Oh Nic,

I don’t have a good feeling about this. The fact that they’re in his car – not his sock drawer, not his bedside table, but his car(!) sets off alarm bells.

Cars are prime real estate for a cheeky rendezvous. (A friend once found a used condom in the backseat of their family car… it ended their parents’ marriage.)

Also, and I hate to say this… it screams ‘I go to brothels’.

Now, before we go full detective mode, let’s consider the (slim) chance there is an innocent explanation. Maybe a mate left them there. Maybe he grabbed them ages ago and forgot. Maybe his mum put them in there for encouragement (not all parents want to be grandparents!) or he’s planning some grand romantic gesture where he suddenly decides to love condoms just for you (okay, that one’s a stretch).

But there’s no denying that it is his reaction to you confronting him that makes this suspicious. The stammering, the blushing, the awkward laughter. That’s not the confident energy of a man with nothing to hide.

If you want to get to the bottom of this, try a trick body-language experts swear by: the ‘reverse recall’ technique. Liars tend to rehearse their stories in order, so if you ask them to explain things backwards – like where they got the condoms, when they put them in the car, and why they look new despite being ‘old’ – they are more likely to stumble.

Another sneaky tactic? Silence. Ask a direct question, then just wait. Liars hate silence and will often keep talking, adding unnecessary details that don’t add up.

And if you really want to test him, throw in an unexpected question, like, ‘When did you get them, again?’ If he’s lying, he’ll probably hesitate. If he’s telling the truth, he’ll answer without a second thought.

At the end of the day, trust your gut. You already know something isn’t right, or you wouldn’t be writing to me.

And one final rant – why are women still arm-wrestling blokes into wearing a small piece of very thin rubber on their peckers that prevent pregnancies and STDs? You know what’s more uncomfortable than a few seconds of awkward fumbling as he puts it on? A very awkward conversation with the doctor later on.

If I were you, I wouldn’t just be questioning his loyalty; I’d be questioning whether he even deserves the privilege of being in your bed at all.
